Salzburg, Austria - {Family Travels}

Updated: Nov 10, 2018

Ah Salzburg! This was such a beautiful city! We absolutely loved our time there and hope to go back!! We got up September 1st and drove right through to Salzburg! It's not too bad of a drive (about 4 hours), so once we got all checked into our hotel we explored a little bit! Our hotel was on the other side of this huge hill that separates the city, so we walked through the big tunnel and it opened up to this beautiful area that was in the Sound of Music! Which we didn't know until after we got home and watched it hahaha On this trip we planned on hitting a bunch of the spots where The Sound of Music was filmed. The first one we walked to was Mirabell Palace and Gardens. It was absolutely beautiful and on the walk we saw the Mozart's Birth Place and just explored the old square.

As we were heading to the Nonnberg Abbey where some of the Sound of Music was filmed, we ended up at the Salzburg castle! We were walking up all of the stairs and we did end up at the Abbey and at the gate entering the Abbey that's in the movie, but we didn't know it was right near the castle! So we ended up touring the grounds and getting some beautiful views of Salzburg.

On Sunday night we ate at this cute little restaurant called Zum Zirkelwirt where Elliott tried an Austrian beer! Oh and Austrian food is SO GOOD. We both have a lot of German in us, so we are big fans of the food in Austria and Germany haha On Monday morning we visited both of the houses that the Sound of Music was filmed at (Schloss Leopoldskron and Schloss Frohnburg) and then the Gazebo in the famous "16 Going on 17" song! After visiting those places we continued onto Germany! I decided to split up the blogs because...too many photos! haha but stay tuned!
